As a student, you don't usually have to worry about taxes. If you have a part-time job and earn a good income, you may have to pay tax. You can reduce your tax burden with your tuition fees, travel costs or other study expenses.
**If you are already working, you automatically pay taxes, which your employer deducts directly from your salary. **
The German state uses this money to fund infrastructure, education and healthcare, for example.
**The tax system in Germany is complex, especially for internationals.**
By fling a tax return at the end of the year, you can get some of the taxes you have paid back if, for example, you have a long commute to work or need to buy work equipment.
